So you don't scan a pokemon card, you scan the white or green card you get when you open a pack of cards or a battle box. Once you have the white or green card it should have a 13 number or letter code on the back. Then you insert the code (with the slashes) if you don't want to insert the code then click the camera button and scan the qr code.

I personally haven't done it with the scanning feature yet but if you hold the QR on the card up to the laptop or phone camera and click the redeem button in the game and it should scan it. I tried with a code I already used and it said code empty so not sure if that's because I already used it or if it failed to scan. If scanning doesn't work just enter the code.
