Chapter One: The Start of the Journey

(This is the DnD like story)

The group journeys through the forest on an old forgotten path that Arceus told them to travel, saying it will take them to someone that will give them more information. Violet (female Charcadet) and Jerry (male Yamper) have their own conversation going that Sol (male Absol) is silently listening to. Zane (male Chimchar) and Catsuki (nonbinary Sprigatito) are giving each other glares, each trying to assert power over the other (but it looks more like a weird staring contest than an attempt of intimidation).

"I'm glad that there is a fellow Paladin in this team," the Violet says to Jerry happily. "It is very comforting."

"You know, you say you're a Paladin, but you don't give off the vibes of one," the Electric type states, immediately receiving a glare from the Charcadet.

"Are you saying that I am not a loyal warrior for my wonderful god Yveltal," she asks, her voice low and threatening.

"N-No," the dog exclaims, shaking his head. "I'm just saying that I don't think you're a Pa-"

"I AM A PALADIN!!!" Violet snaps, breaking Zane and Catsuki's attention away from their glaring to look at her.

"Alright, alright, you're a Paladin," the Yamper tells her, getting a satisfied hum in return.

"I don't care if you're a Paladin or not, serving a god is flat out ridiculous," Sol states, adding an unasked for opinion to the conversation. "I guess it doesn't make sense to me since I, personally, am a god."

"I'd be convinced the Charcadet is a Paladin sooner than I would believe you're a god," Catsuki says, looking the Absol up and down before shaking their head.

"Yeah! You don't have that "I'm a god" aura to you," Yamper agrees as he studies the very offended Dark type closer. "You give more of a "Pokémon with a huge ego" feeling."

"How dare you," Sol exclaims dramatically. "How dare you all! When my divine strength kicks in, y'all will be the first to get smited!"

"Wait, wait, wait," Zane tells the Disaster Pokémon, waving his hands around as he squeezes his eyes shut, focusing really hard on his thoughts. "'When my divine strength kicks in…'" he repeats. He quietly thinks more before his eyes shoot open and he gasps, smirking widely with a cruel amusement. "That means that even if you are a god you can't use your power on command!"

"Nah, really," Catsuki says blandly.

"Yup," the monkey replies proudly, completely missing the sarcasm.

"So what that I can't use it on command," Sol demands defensively. "I am still a god—"

"Or so you claim…" the Sprigatito mutters, smirking as the Absol's eye twitches with fury.

"Why I oughta—" Sol growls aggresively, getting up into the cat's personal space.

"Guys, cut it out," Violet states, stepping between the enraged Dark type and snickering Grass type. "We need to get along! We can't complete this quest if we don't."

Both Pokémon want to argue this, but neither of them can think of a counter. So they walk away from each other with a sad sigh. Nobody says a word after that, the group going silent. They only talk again to discuss setting up camp for the night as the sun begins to set.

Violet and Jerry go out and collect food and wood, Catsuki sets up the tents, and Zane starts the fire. They eat roasted berries aa they wonder what lies ahead.

"So what do we expect to find that's creating the mutants," Jerry asks before taking a large bite of his kebab.

"Don't you do Divination," Carsuki inquires. "Why don't you just look and see who it is?"

"I only see things when Arceus let's me," the dog replies as he build another stick of berries. "I'll see the culprit when it's time for me to. Until then all I can do is guess."

"I'm expecting some nobody that is tired of being overlooked and is taking an opportunity to bring attention to their brilliance," Sol states with a smirk, obviously thinking he has already cracked the mystery.

"I think it'll be someone strong. Someone I can fight and prove superiority over," Zane tells everyone excitedly before shoving a hand full of seeds into his mouth.

"I'm thinking—" Violet begins to answer, but a rustling in the trees catch her attention and she goes silent. Everyone else does the same, glancing around for the culprit.

"Must have been the wind…" the cat mutters after some time, they themself not sounding convinced of that.

"Maybe…" the Charcadet says quietly. She continues to stare out into the dark forest, and finally she finds a dark figure. "THERE!!!" she shouts, immediately leaping up and running to it. The shadowy figure darts, attempting an escape.

"Hey, wait," Jerry hollers as he rushes after her. "You can't go into the woods alone! Especially not at night!"
