I have been watching XYZ and, wanted to know what anime you all would recommend after I finished. I have watched Pokemon journeys, Pokemon sun and moon, and Pokemon the beginning and parts of Pokemon black and white

I directly watched journeys then 40 episodes of horizons and now recently watching sun and moon.

When it comes to the Pokémon Anime, I classify Gen 6 as 1a with Gen 4 or Diamond&Pearl as 1b. Dawn, having replaced May as the female protagonist, is superb while Brock returns for his final run as Ash’s companion. You are then introduced to Paul, a rival who is a complete 180 to Ash and a trainer who makes Gary(aka Blue), look inept since up to this point, Ash has never really had a rival that beats not only the snot out of Ash but makes Ash doubt himself after every defeat. You then sprinkle in Cynthia, Team Galactic and other subplots(such as Paul’s Chimchar) to get a regional Anime that gives XY/XYZ a run for its money. Serena may be the number 1 Pokegirl, but there is a reason Dawn is number 2, hence my recommendation to watch Gen 4 Anime.

Eh I speak facts. Last I checked, Serena is the number 1 ranked Pokegirl while Dawn is ranked 2nd. A large reason for Dawn’s ranking is due to the Gen 4 Anime. Gen 7 is ok but I felt it suffered from too many characters syndrome as they couldn’t give them all the amount of screen time they deserved. That said, Gen 7 has some real gems that tug at your soul with the Episode involving Mallow’s Mother really hitting the emotional nerve(that is if you don’t tear up a bit, I don’t know what else to say). As for Gen 9, it’s way too early to judge it. Best to wait until it finishes to give it a score/ranking. I do need to start watching it though but I presently can’t due to an ongoing remodeling project.

Kind of ashamed I didn't mention it before, but the Pokémon Anime in Japanese with English subtitles is just superior to anything dubbed into English. The reason I say this is particularly due to what they cut from the dubbed version. Be it OST or different dialogue, you miss out on a lot and that goes for any Generation but especially the early regions like Kanto.

Sun and moon and then horizons

If you still have time then keep journeys for the last

that is if you don’t tear up a bit, I don’t know what to say

I don’t tear up at the Pokémon anime

The closest I’ve come is the bit in the climax of xyz where

Bonnie sings the squishy song and saves squishy from being possessed
