For me it was fun, but that's probably because I didn't play any 3d Pokemon game before it.
Some fangames I have played were better, though.
If the price was lower and they fixed some elements I think it could have been really good.
The only reason I got it was because of the battling system, which I can say did not dissappoint.1 -
I actually did like the characters
I just feel like they were not that well made
I have no problem with the fact they were "nice"
Honestly, though, AZ's death broke me
I forgot about that and that's another good quality of the game
HE WAS GOING TO COOK FOR US!!!
And that soft smile he had when we had asked him too...
He didn't deserve to die!

Also, you're right that they opened problems and possible stories on brief mentions that never again get brought up
But my biggest question for the game will always be...
Where is Clemont?
I was so excited to go to Lumios and finally meet him in a game and he wasn't there!
Also, I, too, enjoyed the Canari hologram thing but when you include all the other plot twists it kind of took away from the fun of it because now it feels annoying

Ingo from PLA went back to Unova after being gone for apparently 5 years at maximum and we never get anything on what Emmet did during them or how he felt or where he went, which is a huge disappointment. It's confirmed by dialogue from interacting with the museum's Jubilife village replica and a random NPC's dialogue about the battle Subway reopening.

The two were two of my favorite characters from the anime!
I just couldn't remember which one got blasted into the past

Also, we know it can't be more than 5 years by too much, because XY takes place around the same time as BW2 if I remember correctly.
