Ditto & Mew Working Together in the Same Deck Works, Right?

@DoubleCure and/or anyone who might know or have experienced the same thing....

I'm not sure if this is a bug or if this isn't supposed to work because it didn't for my friend (we'll call her CP) in real life when we played TCG Pocket in person the other day.

Okay, here's the basic situation. Please read through it, ask questions if I forgot something important, let me know what you think and if this is a known issue/bug.

  • I used a water deck with only water energy. Also went first.
  • CP used a psychic deck with only psychic energy, going 2nd.

The following is what happened in turns, minus any professors research or pokeballs we probably used.

  1. (Me) Horsea in active spot, adds Wigglet to bench.
  2. (CP) Ditto (# 055 from Crimson Blaze) is in active spot with Mew (# 030 from Mega Shine) on bench. Adds one psychic energy to Ditto. Adds Rocky Helmet to Ditto too.
  3. (Me) Adds water energy to Horsea. Evolves to Seadra. No further action.
  4. (CP) Adds psychic energy to Ditto. Tries to use Ditto's move "Copy Friend" for the benched Mew's move "Miraculous Memory". Does not work. Nothing happens. Will not allow CP to select Mew's move even though Ditto has enough of the correct energy. Turn ends in frustration with no action taken.
  5. (Me) Adds water energy to Seadra. Evolves to Kingdra EX ...

Game continues on but Ditto's move never worked in the Ditto/Mew combination.

Is that too much of a chain?

CP tried again today in a solo battle with Ditto in the active spot, Mew again on bench, but also had Duskull on the bench. I watched as TCGP allowed CP to select Duskull's move via Ditto but it still did not allow Mew's move to be selected and/or work.

After reviewing the specifics on both cards both of us think this is a bug because the requirements were met for the moves. Unless we missed something?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Hmm...

    I don't know...

That's odd that it didn't work!

Can you remind me what Mew's attack is?

    Like, what does it do?

    Sure!

    Mew's attack Miraculous Memory says:

(Wow! You're not going to believe this!!! I just relogged into TCGP to get the exact wording for it and it stated that I could open a booster pack, so I thought, sure, why not? Then I said sure, why not open a Mega Shine even though I had just completed the dex (Thank you!), so I opened it.... It made a sound!..... And ✨sparkles✨..... and the last card in the pack was none other than the MEW emersive art card!!! With the wording I needed! (I didn't have that card yet 😁). Talk about coincidence! LOL!)

    Anyways, Miraculous Memory says:

1 attack from among the Pokémon in your opponent's hand and deck is chosen at random, and you use the chosen attack as this attack.

Oh, I didn't realize that it can choose from my deck too 😬... I had some good cards in there including a Mega Gyarados EX.

    Yeah, that doesn't make sense

I was going t say "maybe you guys just didn't have Pokemon in your hand" but from deck too?

    No this is a glitch

(Also, HECK YEAH!!! I love that card and I'm glad you got it! Talk about good timing, too!)

@DoubleCure.... just curious if you were able to see this. Still wondering if you have encountered this issue before. Thanks!

Ah I see... the inability of Ditto to copy Mew is not a bug, but rather the strict application of an official original Pokemon TCG rule.

According to the TPCi Rules Team, an attack that copies another "copying" attack only copies the "text" of that move and cannot execute the next copy final result.

In this case, Ditto would copy the instruction to "choose an attack," but the rules prevent it from actually performing the attack selected from the opponent's deck.

This specific copy of copy situation in TCG Pocket, is simplified in the game by preventing you from selecting Mew's move to block this complex actions that, by rule, would result in no effect or damage.

You can check this copy attacks rules in the official Pokemon rulings Compendium under the "Watch and Learn" entry.
