I got a copy of Red on my birthday and intended to pick Charmander to eventually get the Charizard on the box, but actually ended up opting for Squirtle because I liked the one with sunglasses in the anime.

Technically the first pokemon game I played was pokemon duel before it shut down..... But mainline games it was let's go pikachu/eevee which wasn't a great first game, so sadly it was Pikachu..... Yeah i put a lot more attention into the mew i got from my pokeball plus.

I’m an old fan, from the dinosaur era. I first played Blue, and was a bit of a pragmatic kid at the time. I saved at the choice and gave each of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle (in that order because of seeing the Pokédex number when checking in those games) a shot at impressing me before hitting level 10.
Charmander was my first starter I ever played through a game with, but Bulbasaur was the first I ever selected due to how quirky I was as a child.
