I need help in leaf green

SS.Anne in Vermilion is where you go to get HM1(Cut). The Captain is seasick but prior to entering his cabin, you run into your rival. After beating Blue(or w/e nickname you have for him), you then go to "heal" the Captain. Upon doing so, he gives you the HM. However, once you acquire the HM, the ship permanently departs after you exit the ship, hence be sure to battle all the Trainers on the ship before doing so, else forever hold your peace with respect to the XP they give.

You then need a Pokemon that can learn the HM. Solid options are any Grass Type(Bulbasaur, Oddish, Bellsprout, Paras) or Normal type(Meowth, Farfetch'd(which is a trade in Vermilion too)). Charmander can also learn it, ditto Sandshrew. Then once you get Cut on a Pokemon, you can go and battle Lt.Surge for the badge and/or go into Diglett Cave to backtrack to Route 2 and grab the Flash HM(HM05) that you'll "optionally" need for Rock Tunnel on Route 9-10.

Leave Diglett cave and go back to the city you were in

Btw, you'll need Cut to enter Erika's Gym in Celadon and to get the Fly HM west of Celadon. After that… you pretty much don't need it unless you plan to backtrack to the Power Plant on Route 9-10 to catch Zapdos and Electric types that are found only there. Which is why there's a thing such as HM slaves. You only pull them out for that reason.

Oh and if you want a neat little trick for item farming, try grabbing 6 Meowth for a party and going to Pokemon Tower(in Lavender Town) and Biting all the Ghost types there(which can't harm you since you're a Normal type). You'll be amazed at what your little cats can find… XD
