I'm considering attempting a Shiny Charmander on my first go but I don't know if it's possible

If is is possible, how long does it usually take?

I don't want to waist my time in it on my first time playing

It’s possible but it’s 1/8192 and you don’t see if it’s shiny unless you go check it’s stats

I tried doing a shiny reset hunt in USUM with lower odds I decided to give up after 400 attempts

That's sad. I got a shiny Litten first. Then Shiny Poplio and last Shiny Rowlet. On different runs.

But i think US and UM have long cutseens at the begining so it takes longer. I think. Ive never played them.

I can confirm this as someone who got a shiny Rowlet in SM, all the Alola games have long cutscenes and every reset I did took around 5 minutes. The fastest game to get a shiny starter in is probably HGSS since you can see all three at once without checking its stats.
