There is speculation that there will be some version of FireRed and LeafGreen released for the 30th anniversary; possibly as soon as Pokémon Day. While I have no idea how credible those claims are, it seems feasible, and I am interested to hear what form you think these games will take and what you would want from them.

The simplest thing they could do would be to drop the original games on NSO. The infrastructure is already there for it, people have wanted it for a while, and as long as there are no weird emulation bugs, I think it would be very well received. Throw in Home compatibility and most people will be very satisfied. Or at least, not offended. Just don't make it Switch 2 exclusive.

The next option would be some standalone port of the games, probably as download only rather than boxed releases. I think people would expect a few more features to be included in that case. Home compatibility would be a given, but probably some online play system, too. Maybe they could try fixing some of the old lingering bugs.

The next option would be a full on remake/remaster, and despite the general sentiment in the fanbase, I would suspect the BDSP treatment from ILCA. Game Freak would give the game more fanfare if they were making it themselves, so another team making the game is the only situation where a stealth drop on Pokémon Day is still possible, to my mind.

We all know the problems with BDSP. The controversial art style, the persistent bugs remaining from the original in addition to new ones introduced in the port, the forced exp. share without rebalancing the game...

I hope it doesn't get that treatment.

The last option is a full, Game Freak led remake. In that case, I expect a game announcement rather than a release. And it has the potential to be great, as any new Pokémon game does, but I suspect other than adding fairy type and the modern game mechanics (which would at least make a new Kanto playthrough a little more interesting) and slapping on mandatory exp. share once more, the game would just be 3D Kanto. Again.

So of all these options, assuming we are getting any version of FRLG, I would put my money on a NSO drop. Standalone remakes are also possible, but I am sceptical Game Freak would put in the effort. Anything fancier, even an ILCA remake, and I expect a trailer over a game drop.

But what do you all think?
