I figured out why there is a lack of advertisement

With recent games (Z-A, Z-A DLC, and Champions) we have gotten almost no advertisement

I have figured out why

They aren't making enough story

If they tell us anything more than the unsatisfying amount they do then it will show us practically everything in the game

It's pretty sad and a tad bit disappointing

I hope for future games they need to make more so we can get proper hype, enjoyment, and not have to hope a DLC will complete the game

Anyways, just what I realized

Bye!

They haven't had a proper story since Gen 5(imo). Ever since they went to 3D, their story telling has gone downhill. Basically, replacing good story with oooh and ahhhh visuals.

i think with the legends stuff there is space for some proper storytelling, legends arceus showed off some of it without needing any DLC to expand on the story and legends z-a did the bare minimum and is possibly the worst mainline pokemon game story, content, and region wise of all time. i think the next pokemon game needs some of the zelda or xenoblade guys to step in and give it a more in depth story, if they did a game based on the history of the johto region with the dog trio i think it would succeed in having a proper game.

but i wonder if fans are starting to get tired of the lackluster games as of recent because people only want to buy the stuff if its good.

    I don't know

I've heard Alola has a really good story

What disappoints me is we haven't had many good villains since Alola

Rose was a pretty pathetic attempt

He was humorous to me but not actually good

I still believe that with only a bit of tweeking Sonia would have been the perfect villain

And then S/V didn't even have one, which disappointed me

Although, S/V has some of the best developed characters in my opinion

However, back to villains, Giovanni, Archie, and Maxie weren't the best

I like Giovanni due to being basic, but he's really not great

But then we've got Cyrus, Ghetis, Lysander, and Lusamine

    Some beautifully written villains

Cyrus (who I agree with to an extent) wanting perfection

Ghetis is just cruel and power hungry. He's Giovanni but better

Lysander hating greed. I think he went about it the wrong way, though. If it were me I would have just wiped out all, me the only survivor, and raised a new society of communism to eliminate greed but keep society.

    Lusamine being corrupted and insane

Then we get hit with Rose

But then we got saved with Volo (the best villain who I relate with on a level that that cannot be explained. I believe he was justified)

And then we have nothing after

Even Z-A had nothing (Corbeau disappointed me. He should have been bad but instead of just a bunch of confusion)

I hope this next game we get an amazing and decently long story/plot with a well made villain

I'll still be buying in the future

I'm not mad at the games

I just see places that could be improved

I mean I will probably be buying in the future but up until what point, if the games that come out later are just as bad as Legends Z-A I may not continue buying their games.

I just want them to make a good game again, and if they can't do that then why should I support them when they aren't doing the same. Maybe they are trying in their own way but shipping out two lackluster games in a row without much meat and expensive DLC's on top of it really is making me question if I should run to get the next game.

This may be a shocking take coming from me, but I think Pokémon narratives have broadly improved as the franchise has progressed.

I know they want to market it on its graphics, but... that clearly isn't working and is not their strong point. Unfortunately, like many things in the franchise, marginal improvement for many people is enough when it comes to Pokémon.

I am not saying that every story has been great. XY was very bland, SwSh is easily the worst in the franchise and I would argue that PLA was also pretty bad, but again, any novelty is a massive leap forward in the Pokémon franchise.

However, I will say that I think characterisation has greatly improved as the franchise has gone on, and not just visual character design. They have a lot more depth than the lone gimmick personalities even named characters had in the 2D era.

And I think Sun and Moon have a very good story; one of the better ones in the franchise in fact. Its main problem is the delivery of that story: constantly interrupted by tutorials and cutscenes. USUM coming out a year later, when people had only just recently trudged through the last one, with essentially the same story but with the main payoffs cut out didn't help matters.

That is one game I would really like to see remade with the cutscenes reworked and trimmed down. We probably won't get that for another half decade at least though, and they will probably leave the cutscenes intact.

I didn't like SV's story overall, but again, the individual character stories were well done. Shame about the rest of the game and the awkward lack of voice acting.

None of this is to say that I think Pokémon exhibits extraordinary storytelling. Even among video games, it's hilariously primitive. I love gen 5 in part for its story, but that is only in comparison to the rest of the franchise.

But the potential is clearly there. People love the worlds and characters of the Pokémon franchise. And I think it is improving, unlike the graphics and gameplay which makes only begrudging updates to trudge a decade behind the rest of the industry, if not going backwards at times.

If Pokémon were willing to take some risks and really deliver on its potential, we could explore some phenomenal story concepts.

Sadly I am not sure if it will ever break out of getting 8 badges and beating the Pokémon League while fighting the evil antagonistic misunderstood team.

Z-A's story was just straight up horrible to the point of making me feel like I shouldn't buy gen 10 when I've gotten almost every mainline game in the franchise and felt more like it was engineered to be liked than written to be good, SV could have been a lot better though the ending was fun, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to even say PLA had a story, SwSh felt noticably rushed (though it was still somewhat enjoyable), USUM forgot what made Alola's story good, SM was cool and honestly I still don't mind the cutscenes (SV and Z-A have much, much, much, much worse pacing), ORAS is forgettable but it was really nice, XY had so much potential and felt unfinished, BW2 barely had a story, BW was epic though they could've handled some things better, DPPt aren't real, RSE look awesome and are very fun but their story was a lot worse than ORAS, Johto has no story, Kanto was their first try making a Pokémon story and it shows (it's not bad, but it isn't hard to tell it was the first game).
