Let's Give Infernape Some Love

One of my all time favorite Pokémon

It looks cool and has some good attack options, but it doesn't really get much attention

Pokémon did it amazing in the anime, but that's it

Let's think about it

It came after the game that already had a Fire/Fighting starter just to be followed by another Fire/Fighting starter

It's stats aren't overly incredible, just decent

No unique attack

No unique ability

Not even a gimmick!

Like, come on!

I WANT MEGA INFERNAPE!!!

Shoot, even a Z-Move would be nice!

Or give it a regional variant?

Something to show that it is remembered!

It was literally the best of its starter trio (objective) and one of the best in general (subjective)

Let's get it something!

It's alright. I had one on my team for a while in arceus and named it Phil but outside of that, its alright

It’s the best sinnoh starter and one of the best sinnoh pokemon, but a lot of undignified people say pooplup is the best sinnoh starter.

I have a couple of 170hp Infernape Ex cards in TCG Pocket that do 140 dmg for only 2 energy. The trade off is that you have to discard all energy though. The card is pretty cool (or should I say "hot" 🔥) to look at also

Infernape doesn’t need anything more than what it has. It’s definitely the best of the three but it’s not a runaway as you’ll see below.

Gym Leaders with advantage: Chimchar(3, at most 5 if you factor in Mach Punch for Roark and beating Maylene’s Lucario), Piplup(2), Turtwig(4, at most 5 with Maylene’s Lucario if it has a Ground move by then)

Elite Four with advantage: Chimchar(Aaron), Piplup(Bertha and Flint, vulnerable on both though), Turtwig(Bertha; not fast enough for Flint)

Then there’s Team Galactic where you got Purugly(advantage Chimchar), Skuntank(advantage Turtwig if it has a Ground move and moves before it can use Flamethrower) and Toxicroak(advantage Turtwig). They also tend to use Bug and Poison types that primarily benefit Chimchar and Piplup.

Overall, it’s really close between the three but I’d give a slight edge to Chimchar or Infernape with Turtwig an honorable 2nd and Piplup 3rd.
