Help me! My Pokémon Red Japanese just suddenly deleted my save file!

Hi guys! I was playing Pokemon Red in Japanese in my Gameboy Pocket. I saved in Team rocket's hideout and I turned off the console, then when I turned on again the GB (like 2 min later) poof, the file was deleted.

Any idea on what I could do to recover the file?

Old Game Boy cartridges used an internal battery to keep the save file in memory. When the battery runs out and the memory loses power, it can no longer retain the save. They are little watch batteries that usually last about 20-30 years.

You can replace the battery, but the save is gone. If you wish to keep using your original cartridge after you replace the battery, I would recommend using another device to back up the save.

Heh my Yellow cartridge is still rolling after ~26 years. Had a feeling it had a shelf life but so far so good. At least I have little reason to play it now that I have a Switch 2 and Gen 9. The jump from Gen 1 to 9 though…. a grind. But yeah… not much you can do to get that save back. Unless you spent several hours grinding Magikarp into a Gyarados, getting back there shouldn't take too long once you replace that Battery. I found Red/Blue to be much easier than Yellow(imo).
