The Switch Main Games Dislikes
So when I hear about the older main games (Gen 1-7) on here, people say there were mistakes with the games but the games as a whole were great.
The ones on the Switch (Gen 8-9), though?
That they were decent and the flaws are unbearable.
Me personally, I like what I've got.
Especially Sw/Sh (they are some of my favorite games).
However, even being a fan of them doesn't mean I don't have problems with them.
That's what this post is about.
What do you dislike about Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet?
Even if you love the games there has to be something that bugs you.
For me, what Sw/Sh did wrong were the characters.
I have characters from the games that I love (Bede, Piers, Kabu, Leon, and Peony), but the majority of them I dislike, don't care for them, or flat-out forget about.
Nessa and Raihan I strongly disliked, Milo had nothing interesting, Opal humored me but she wasn't funny enough to like, Mustard is pretty good but not good enough to care about, Gordie and his Ice equivalent (can't remember her name) I found nothing to enjoy, Rose was just dumb, his assistant was just annoying, Bea and Allister weren't really bad but weren't good either.
There are so many other characters but the list continues as above.
I do want to talk about Hop and Sonia, though.
I loved Hop's story and development.
I liked watching him grow and find who he wants to be.
But Hop himself is annoying.
I can't stand him and could have enjoyed the game without him.
I also liked Sonia's self-discovery story.
Leaving her Grandma's shadow and making a name for herself.
But honestly, she was a pretty bland character with a lot of wasted potential to be more.
Plus, I believe she could have been the perfect villain for the games but that's a different story.
Another thing I disliked was how small the world was.
The map was so big and felt like there could have been a lot to explore, but the simple paths made it disappointing.
However, that made finding small secrets fun, like the tiny area behind Magnolia's house.
But even then it wasn't enough to make up for the lack of area,
And it's not like the Wild Area made up for it.
There was literally nothing special about the Wild Area.
The DLC land might have been a bit better, but not much.
The Crowned Tundra was not that enjoyable to me.
The Isle of Armor was incredibly fun, but the only good things that came from Crowned Tundra was Peony and the Legendary Max Dens.
That's it.
For Scarlet and Violet, I think it was the Pokémon that was most disappointing.
The additions from Paldea are my least favorite by far.
Now don't get me wrong, I love some of the Pokémon from the game.
The ones I like from it are very high ranked.
But looking at the whole thing, it was not that great.
They couldn't even come up with anything unique for parts of the Dex!
Wiglett, Toadscruel, and all the Paradoxes are lazy and largely disappointing, in my opinion.
Plus, Robo Professor was shocking, yes, but there was no way to predict it.
I hate when games/stories/movies do that.
Throw in a plot twist that there was no way to see coming.
It just doesn't make sense.
That's a lot of things, I know, but I still love the games!
Hard to believe after hearing all that, but I can admit flaws about a game and still love it.
That's how these are for me.
Looking forward to seeing y'all's opinions!

I hate Paldea for pretty much one major outstanding reason:
WIGLETT2 -
But Sword/Shield? ARCEUS I love it so much. First of all, it portrayed Pokémon Battling as a sport, which is something I always wondered about. Second, it has my favorite Pokémon. Third, Rose might not be great, but the Darkest Day turning the sky this awful blood-red, Leon fails to capture it, then me and Hop lift up the sword and shield and there are these two soul-wrenching howls that just vibrate through my very soul, and these Pokémon are HEROES. True HEROES. The ones that can FIGHT this monstrosity! And then those little pics from your journey that show… 😭

Okay seriously though Paldea bored me with just Paldean form Pokémon that AREN'T Paldean form, the whole time travel thing is just generally a really hard plot to play with and personally I think should never have been used, and the Legendary is with you the whole time and everyone is just cool with that. Plus, the Legends lacked the normal awe. However, I do love many character personalities (Arven, Penny, Clavell, Kierian no not you Neamona)

I don't like Sword/Shied because I remember it being incredibly mediocre. I remember playing it for the first time and thinking the graphics look like they are from the 3DS considering the graphical improvements seen in Let's Go, and then playing it and thinking it's generally fine. I remember going into the gym and finding the new gym stuff to be boring, compared to the old gyms which had some unique ideas and could be boring if dragged out but were short and sweet. I also remember Hop being a rip off of Hau, I liked Hau but I wanted a brand new companion. I also remember disliking Team Skull a lot, well until I meat Team Yell which made me appreciate Team Skull a bit more. I played through it, decent on average, meeting Rose and whatever his Aether Foundation rip off was about and thinking that this was playing out a bit too much like Sun/Moon. Then the final happened, which was cool but then it got interrupted by something that wasn't very interesting. Then the final boss happened and whatever I went to catch the cover legendary it was cool. Then I finished the game and wanted to explore the post game content cause Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon had a ton of content to keep you busy after beating the game with the battle tree and the Ultra Wormholes and Rainbow Rocket I was expecting a lot and… I got Swordbert and Shieldbert. Yeah… Maybe I was missing more… But that was it. That had disappointing me a bit but when I saw the DLC content that made me not pleased that there was finally new content but rather the opposite. The announcement of DLC content made me quite upset, it felt like they gave me a mediocre package overall and to have a somewhat decent time with the game I had to sink in more money into this already expensive game. Also in the past there was never DLC content for any mainline Pokemon games, each one was a complete package that promised hours of fun, even after beating the game. Even XY, which had a more lackluster post-game had more post-game content than Sword/Shield. Seeing the DLC content was the worst thing this entry did and honestly quite disappointing. It was insult after injury, and even after playing the DLC content I still believe that there should have been significantly more post game content included in the base game.
I think those who grew up with Sword/Shield will have fond memories of the game, they have an easier time looking past the flaws. But even then it is important to acknowledge what is wrong about the game because it makes you appreciate more what is right about the game and make you expect the positives more. To better understand Sword/Shield's flaws I also believe it is worth playing the previous Pokemon entries, I don't know how accessible they are considering how much people online up-charge them to the point it's more expensive than a Switch 2 game but it is worth trying the older entries. It gives you a much better understanding of the series as a whole.
I won't discuss Scarlet/Violet, I prefer it over Sword/Shield but not by much. It has similar flaws that make it not that great.
I will briefly discuss legends Arceus as it is very much a step in the right direction bringing innovation to the Pokemon games. Legends Z-A is basically the ultimate Legends Arceus combat experience and the best version of the pokemon battle system to date but the game also has all of the flaws from Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet and more.
That is all.

Pokemon Let's Go released in 2018, Sword/Shield released in 2019, and Legends Arceus released in 2022. These entries by all means aren't new and shouldn't be considered new. Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and Legends Z-A are new entries, but what doesn't make sense and what makes me question things is why Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu, a 7 year old game is being priced at 60$ like a brand new game.
