Interaction between Mimikyu V and Cancelling cologne

Given the text on the cologne, what would be the reason it didn't work on Mimikyu? I would have thought the effect was tied to the ability and would be removed with cologne given the "This includes pokemon that came into play during that turn"

PTCGO wouldn't let me hit through the mimikyu.

My guess it that the effect is a separate layer to the ability, but feel they should be tied to each other.

The ability only activates once at the time Mimikyu V is played from the hand. It creates an effect on Mimikyu V. An effect is not the same as an active ability so Canceling Cologne has no effect because it removes the ability, but the effect it created remains. This is a correct interaction.
