Giratina Lost Impact bug

So I was just playing against a Lost zone Giratina deck and my opponent's Giratina used Lost Impact to KO my charmander but he didn't have to put 2 of his energies in the lost zone as he is supposed to do after using Lost Impact. What is up with that? There were no stadiums in play or abilities that would stop him from having to do so.

    And before anyone says this: No he didn't use Star Requiem. He still had his V-star power active and he used it the turn right afterwards.

    You sure it was the VSTAR and not the V? I don't think anyone would ever waste a Lost Impact on a Charmander if they can help it.

    Any chance they discarded energies from a benched pokemon? It doesn't have to be what's attached to giratina.
