Why does the deck builder crash the game?

I've wanted to learn how to build decks in pokemon, so I figured I'd go to the deck builder and browse all the cards in standard...turns out when you do this and try to scroll to the bottom, the game ends up eating up all your CPU and causes the game to crash.

I'm not sure why this game is SO CPU intensive....it doesn't make any sense. PLEASE optimize this, I want to play the game...but I'm not going to bother when I can't even browse the card base.
