Reversal energy went to discard instead of kingdra

I was playing a whiscash mill deck featuring kingra with the deep sea king ability . I had a manaphy in the active with a reversal energy on and when it was KO'd by charizard ex the energy went straight to the discard pile. The discard pile was highlighted after as though there was something to interact with and, of course, at that point the energy wasn't going anywhere. The ability worked as intended in other instances (even in that same game), so why not that time?

Reversal Energy only works when you're behind on prizes and it's attached to an Evolution Pokémon without a rule box. Manaphy is a Basic, so the Reversal only counted as one Colorless Energy. Thus, the Ability can't move it. Everything is working as intended except the fact that the discard was highlighted for some reason. Remember to read your cards carefully. People often want a card to be stronger than it is and end up glancing over the drawbacks and restrictions. I suggest re-reading all cards involved when things don't work as you expected before reporting anything as a bug.

Thank you, I admit my experience with reversal energy is low and I did indeed overlook the evolution parameter. I was behind in prizes, however, I tunnel visioned on the ability.

Yeah Reversal Energy is a particularly tricky one, as it has three different variables.
