Problems with Gusty Pickaxe

Randomly When playing with Gusty Pickaxe the card will not play. Sometimes after playing an energy or some other trainer card it will unlock and become an option for play. I use the card a lot and its a major drag and often causes me to have to concede because i have 3 in my hand and the just wont go.
