Bug or am I misunderstanding a mechanic?

In two separate games now, I have come across the issue of Monkidori not being able to use their ability Adrena-brain due to incorrect energy attachment... But it is the correct energy?

I will attach a dark type energy as stated by the card ability but it makes it as psychic and does not trigger the ability to be able to be used. Attaching a second dark energy does not fix the issue nor does bouncing the card into the active spot.

    "but it makes it as psychic" do you mean visually? and you're sure your Pokemon had damage counters on them? also like Pika said… what else was in play?
