Whether you made it or heard or from somewhere else, what's a theory that you have that just seems to make sense?

Me personally, I think all the gimmicks are connected
They all have to do with some sort of rock (Mega/Key Stone, Wishing Piece, Z-Crystal, Terra Shards)
Plus (ZA spoilers) L referred to Zygarde's Mega Evolution attack as similar to Z-Move, which could be a hint at connections between the two
Also, just a bit more details:
Space seems to be a common connection since Rayquaza, who resides in space, can Mega Evolve without a stone, the Ultimate weapon fired off into space, it is unknown where Eternataus came from but Wishing Pieces come from shooting Stars, and... actually, I don't think Terra relates to space...
BUT THE REST DOES!!!
Also, (more ZA) AZ mentions experiencing the Darkest Day, which means that around the time the Ultimate Weapon was fired Eternataus found Earth
It's possible that the beam from the Ultimate Weapon attracted Eternataus
The only issue is that it's not confirmed when Necrozma came to Alola so I can't say if it is connected to the Ultimate Weapon...
As you can see there are many holes in my idea, but it's a work in progress that I think future games will help answer
