A Dream Pokémon Game: Make Legendary Pokémon Feel Truly Legendary

I have one simple wish for the future of Pokémon games:

Please make Legendary Pokémon feel truly legendary again.

Pokémon has spent almost 30 years building an incredible world of myths and mysteries: Ho-Oh and the Burned Tower, Lugia beneath the Whirl Islands, Rayquaza above the clouds, Giratina in the Distortion World, Reshiram and Zekrom representing Truth and Ideals, the mystery of Arceus, Ultra Wormholes, Necrozma, Eternatus, and many more.

All of these stories already exist.

What I dream of is a Pokémon game built around discovering them.

Imagine this:

An old person in a small village tells you a story about a creature that supposedly appeared hundreds of years ago.

There is no Legendary Pokémon icon on your map.

There is no quest marker telling you exactly where to go.

Instead, you find an ancient stone tablet.

Later, you discover a mural with the same symbols.

You begin connecting the clues.

They lead you toward an abandoned mountain, a forgotten island, an underwater ruin, or a place that doesn't even appear on the normal map.

As you get closer, something changes.

The weather becomes strange.

Wild Pokémon disappear.

The music slowly fades away.

You solve the final puzzle.

An ancient door opens.

There is silence.

Something moves in the darkness.

And suddenly you realize:

The legend was true.

That is how I want to encounter Lugia, Ho-Oh, Rayquaza, Darkrai, Giratina, Kyurem, and Arceus.

Not because the game told me where they were.

Because I discovered them.

One Pokémon World That Keeps Growing

Instead of creating a completely separate world every few years, I would love to see one major Pokémon adventure designed to grow over a long period of time.

It doesn't need every region on Day One.

Start smaller and make it great.

Then each generation could become a major expansion.

Kanto & Johto
Mew, Mewtwo, the Legendary Birds, Ho-Oh, Lugia, the Legendary Beasts, Celebi.

Hoenn Expansion
Underwater exploration, ancient climate disasters, Groudon, Kyogre, Sky Pillar, Rayquaza, and Deoxys.

Sinnoh Expansion
Ancient mythology slowly reveals something much larger: Dialga, Palkia, the Distortion World, Giratina, Darkrai, Cresselia, Regigigas, and eventually Arceus.

Unova Expansion
Truth and Ideals, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, and perhaps one day even the mystery of the Original Dragon.

Kalos could explore life and death.

Alola could suddenly open Ultra Wormholes and expand the game into other worlds.

Galar could let us investigate the true history of the Darkest Day, Zacian, Zamazenta, and Eternatus.

And future generations could continue expanding the same world.

After many years, we wouldn't simply have another Pokémon game.

We would have a living Pokémon world containing decades of history and mythology.

Let the Community Discover Things Together

Some mysteries shouldn't be easy.

Maybe one Legendary only appears during a thunderstorm.

Another requires a certain Pokémon in your party.

One requires deciphering ancient writing.

Another appears only after completing several seemingly unrelated mysteries.

Some could escape during the first encounter.

And maybe a few secrets shouldn't even have obvious quests.

Imagine the community after release:

"Has anyone heard that strange sound near the Whirl Islands during a storm?"

"I went there. Nothing happened."

"Did you decipher the tablet in Ecruteak City first?"

Suddenly thousands of players are investigating the mystery together.

Then somebody finally posts:

"I found Lugia."

That feeling of discovering the unknown is something Pokémon is uniquely capable of creating.

3D for the Present, 2D for Legends and Memories

I would also love to see Pokémon use its history visually.

The main world could be modern 3D, while ancient memories, dreams, myths, or historical events could occasionally transition into beautiful classic-style 2D or HD-2D.

Imagine investigating the Burned Tower in 3D.

You touch an ancient artifact.

The screen fades.

Suddenly you are experiencing what happened 150 years ago in beautiful pixel art:

Lightning strikes the tower.

Fire spreads.

Rain finally extinguishes it.

Three Pokémon have died.

Then the sky becomes rainbow-colored.

Ho-Oh descends.

The three Pokémon rise again.

And suddenly you return to the present, standing inside the ruins.

Pokémon's 30-year history could become part of the storytelling itself.

Pokémon Already Has Everything It Needs

Pokémon doesn't necessarily need hundreds of new creatures to make us feel wonder again.

You already have decades of incredible Pokémon, regions, ruins, characters, mysteries, mythology, and memories.

Somewhere beneath the ocean, Lugia sleeps.

Somewhere above the clouds, Rayquaza watches the world.

Somewhere beyond normal reality, Giratina exists.

Somewhere there may still be an Original Dragon that once became Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem.

And somewhere at the beginning of everything is Arceus.

Let us search for them.

Let us wonder whether the stories are true.

Let us get lost.

Let us solve mysteries.

Let us discover places we weren't told to visit.

And finally, let us stand in front of something we previously knew only as a legend.

Hear a legend.
Find the ruins.
Decipher the history.
Follow the clues.
Enter the unknown.
Discover the truth.

Pokémon has already created one of the richest fantasy worlds in gaming.

My dream is simple:

Don't just give us another Pokémon world.

Let us truly explore the incredible world Pokémon has already created.

Yes let's make people sit through essays and long cinematics for history on an electronic game. But no one even buys the ecology book that exists.

I actually mean almost the opposite 🙂

I don't want players to sit through essays or long cinematics. I want the history to be something you play and discover — through exploration, ruins, environmental clues, puzzles and hidden locations.

Less “NPC explains the legend for 10 minutes,” more “I found an ancient ruin, followed the clues, and accidentally discovered that the legend was real.”

The mystery and discovery are the gameplay.

Like mazes to each legendary is something I would be awed by.
