Dear Pokemon Company: NYC is not Tokyo. It's so, so far away, man.
The US is not a place that is easily crossed, nor where any one city serves as a defacto pop cultural hub. We also do not have high speed rail here - we'd like to, but we don't, so at minimum it takes 6 hours by plane or several days by car, and thousands of dollars, to travel from one end of this country to the next. That's money we tend not to have right now.
All this to say that when you lock an event for a game down to one US city, we cannot just drive the equivalent of a few counties over to catch a relatively affordable transport that will get us there within a few hours, and so you are effectively locking the vast majority of fans out of that event - let alone sending it to a city with some of the highest hospitality costs in the country. It'd be one thing IMHO if Mewtwo had moved across the country following the timezones or something, but the only thing achieved by making events like this exclusive to one city 99% of people can't even get to is mostly just making fans playing that game very upset.
I don't really have any horse in that race - I stopped playing GO years ago - but it does concern me with how future exclusive events should be run regarding the mainline games, given that one of the bigger complaints I've heard when these events are active is how basically no one can get to them. I feel that asking most fans stateside about events would have illuminated that. Please learn to account for the size and transport limitations of this country when planning your bigger, snazzier exclusive events, so that more of us can participate!

They are doing this on purpose, trying to make people lose money. The way they do this is based off of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). They also did make Mega Mewtwo available everywhere, during Go Fest Global.

Don't worry the US Is better overall. Its less busy and theres a lot more things to do.Japan is so crazy its too much people for one country although its really big.The Pokemon Centers may have more merch but they are way too crowded. Some are hidden and less busy and have the most merch. One example is this one but its so far from Shibuya.I went to an airbnb that looked like a Johto region house.
