Sudden Death / Tiebreaker Game still not working according rules
Hello Pokémon TCG Live Support Team,
I am writing to report a major rules discrepancy between the current Pokémon TCG Live game client and the official physical TCG rules regarding simultaneous win conditions (ties).
Currently, when both players achieve a win condition at the exact same time (e.g., simultaneous knockouts resulting in both players drawing their final Prize cards), the game engine initiates a 1-Prize "Sudden Death" mode.
Why this is incorrect:
As of the February 2026 Rulebook Update, The Pokémon Company has completely removed "Sudden Death" from the game. Per the current Official Pokémon TCG Rulebook, all ties must now be resolved using a Tiebreaker Game. According to Section 2 of the Play! Pokémon TCG Tournament Handbook, a Tiebreaker Game requires both players to set up a full 6 Prize cards and play until one player achieves a "Prize card advantage" (takes 1 Prize card first).
Impact on Gameplay:
The current 1-Prize engine layout in PTCGL severely breaks card balance. Setting only 1 Prize on the field causes cards like Iono or Special Red Card to instantly reduce an opponent's hand size to a single card on Turn 1. It also completely disables or glitches abilities and attacks that check for "Prize cards your opponent has taken" (e.g., Radiant Charizard, Blood Moon Ursaluna) because the game considers 0 prizes to have been taken from a 1-prize pool.
Please update the match resolution programming to align with the current 2026 rulebook standards. Thank you for your time and dedication to keeping the digital client accurate to real-life competitive play!

Indeed TCG Live hasn't implemented this mechanic yet... tbh I never really liked "Sudden Death".
Tho it isn't that big of a deal to me since it isn't something that happens every day, but sure it would be nice to have the updated tiebreaker in game.

I just had a sudden death game happen to me, and was confused and a bit irritated that there wasn't 6 prize cards like official rules. Special Red Card was able to trigger turn 1 and bricked my win condition.

I believe they will eventually change it... but officially it has changed about 5 months ago or so… and they haven't ever mentioned it... so maybe next year 😅
