What’s your most regretted first partner pick?
Choosing your first partner in a game always feels like a big decision. And sometimes… it doesn’t work out the way you expected. What’s a first partner choice you’ve regretted, and what made you wish you picked differently?

I've had Yellow version for 25+ years and there is no selection process in that version. It wasn't until I got Scarlet that I had a choice in the matter and I picked the Fire croc without any regrets(did my homework). Realistically, all the starters are good Pokemon. Only time you regret it is if it locks you out of using another Pokemon due to type overlap(hence why I look at regional Dex for alternatives).

Idk if this counts... but I sure regret my first starter pack choice in TCG Pocket (the guaranteed ex starter)...
I chose the Mewtwo pack thinking it should be great to get Mewtwo ex as the starter ex, but obviously ended up receiving the Marowak ex.
I had to reroll... but in my defense, it was during the beta phase, so there wasn't much credible information around.

Fenniken in X recently.
I wanted to try something new, but nothing for me can beat Chesnaught.

All of my starters are equal, but Emboar is less equal than my others XD
I had to pick Emboar in Z-A because I am repelled from Feraligatr and Meganium is too bad in battle and isn't my favorite. It grew on meand became a good team member, but at the end of the day I'm not a fan of Emboar's design.
I would have regretted picking the Grass/Flying starter in a fangame where the first gym is Ice if it wasn't for the fact that I really bonded with it and it was the first Lord Birb.

Maybe Chimchar. I don't hate the Chimchar line, it's fine, but I picked him when I first played Diamond and felt a bit underwhelmed. It's not a bad Pokémon, it just feels like the theme of "fire monkey" never really develops in interesting ways. I much prefer the other two starters in gen 4.
I hated all of the gen 8 starter evolutions and the only base form I liked was Scorbunny, so I immediately boxed it so that it could never evolve, and there it remained.

Charmander when I first started Pokémon Blue, because that meant that my first partner Pokémon ever was Charmander. This isn't something I like to tell other people. It's ironic now, given that I voted Charizard as the most overrated Pokémon.
Since then, I've pretty much just picked the Water or Grass starter. Mostly Grass.
