Endless loop on program start

I am running the game on a MacBook Pro—haven't had any significant difficulties before. But now this happens on starting the game:

  • The box "Dress up for the third anniversary" appears.
  • When that box is dismissed, the regular home screen appears.
  • When "Play" is pressed, a dialog with the message "New content is available. Please restart the game to update" appears.
  • Press the "Update now" button in that dialog (it's not possible to do anything else at this point), and the game start counter counts up to 53 and the "Dress up for the third anniversary box"
  • When "Play" is pressed, the "New content" dialog appears again, and it all starts over again, and again, and again …

What I've tried:

  • delete and reinstall the game.
  • delete com.pokemon.pokemontcgl folder in the Library.
  • shut down and restarted the computer.

As I'm not seeing a lot about this here, I'm supposing that others are not having this problem. But I can't get around it. Any suggestions?
