Will we ever get ways to purchase, trade for, or earn shine dust in bulk?

I have never played a game where an in-game currency could not be purchased, exchanged, or earned (in substantial amounts) and in which it was also seemingly purposefully kept away from players. I mean, we’re essentially being drip-fed shine dust currently. I just don’t get it. I mean, I do—$$$—but for heaven’s sake, DeNA made over a billion dollars from this game in the first year alone. Is that not enough? (Rhetorical, I know it’s never enough for corporations)

500 shine dust for winning a solo match feels like a slap in the face; a cruel joke. “Ah, gee. Thanks! Now, I only need to earn this same amount 49 more times to be able to trade a single 2-star card!” Of course, that’s not even possible though, as the rewards are one-off and are not offered on a consistent basis. A good example of this is the reward for winning 10,000 matches which is 100 shine dust… 100 shine dust—1/250th of the amount needed for a single 2-star trade—for winning 10,000 matches… That is absolutely ridiculous!

How do you implement an in-game currency that is required—in large amounts—in order to use a feature and not give players a consistent way to obtain said currency in substantial amounts…?

At this point it's obvious they are not investing that much in the game anymore. People still play and pay... of course less so than a year ago, but it's like that for all mobile games...

As long as they are getting the expected revenue they will avoid changing the game economy... so don't expect significant changes in that area anytime soon.

    I agree. Unfortunately.... Sigh.

It would be nice if they thought more about ways to retain and attract more users of/to their apps (in other words... make us happy).

There’s so much they could do raise player morale and potentially gain some players back—most without hurting their bottom line in any meaningful way—and, yet, they choose to do nothing—while crying about losing and/or not retaining players. 🤔

It’s not like it’d be hard to find improvements to make…

    • Actual FREE giveaways (as in nothing is required of the user to obtain item and nothing else gets taken away from us or has the quality lowered) of shine dust, a special promo card, hourglasses, trade(s), etc
    • Implement universal pack points
    • Improve pull rates for 2* and above
    • Stop being so stingey with everything
    • Stop deliberately screwing with sets (making way too many 3-diamond or 1-star cards) so that it’s harder for us to complete the set and get 24hr WP
    • Stop being so hostile towards your playerbase
    • Dark mode
    • Create new battle modes or story features
    • Rebalance cards
    • Increase binder size
    • Increase binder limit
    • Reduce cost to craft cards
    • Exchange duplicates for shine dust
    • Re-design WP and 24hr WP
    • Fix RNG
    • Optimize the app
    • Get rid of 50% or more of the modals and screens, particularly confirmation modals
    • Make shine dust purchasable
    • Lift restrictions on trading
    • Improve trading feature
    • Improve wishlist feature
    • Add chat feature w/ preconfigured options for trading so we don’t have to use third-party apps
    • Stop taking away ranked for half of every month
    • Make rewards actually worthwhile
    • Increase deck size
    • Increase limit on number of decks

And that’s just off the top of my head! But I know they have no intention of dedicating any additional resources to improve this game. Hell, considering their development cycles are ~6 months (????), I’d doubt it would even matter or make a difference.

Sad, really. Just another Pokemon cash grab.
