Honestly they should've focused more on making a game for their core audience rather than trying to appeal to a new market, which is something they still haven't really learned. Sure gaming is pretty male oriented but even then it isn't cause most men don't game, most grow out of it or never cared much for it. I found that XIII did a better job than FFX-2 with a female protagonist (well, there are six protagonists and its half and half despite Vanille being the narrator and Lightning being the cover girl outside of Japan) because it felt like the story was just written better even if Lightning is just a wannabe Cloud (Cloud is her characters main inspiration). Even VI to an extent, a fan favorite with Terra in the lead (obviously it isn't just her, this game has 14 party characters) but often talked about less due to it being a 2D Super NES entry. They recently remade it for modern devices, including the Switch, it is a good game to play.

My current physical Final Fantasy collection is FF I and II GBA, FFIII DS, FFIV DS, FFVII PSX, FFIX PSX, FFX PS2, FFX-2 PS2, and FFXIII X360. I have more digitally like V, VI, VIII, XII, XIII-2, XIII-3 (Lightning Returns), VII Remake, VII Crisis Core Reunion, VII Rebirth, and XVI but I want to expand my physical collection. Very nice collection, my personal favorites are IX and XIII, I even have the XIII PS3 which is a Japan Exclusive (they also made a XIII-2. XVI would be my favorite if it didn't have its problems (repetitive side quests, crashing after 2-3 hours of play on PC which for whatever reason is a common issue, Dion, and repetitive and basic combat system) cause it looks amazing, the graphics are incredible, and the soundtrack is very good. I also plan to get the XII PS2 steelbook because it looks pretty cool and has a bonus DVD.

The HD remaster of X/X-2, as I do have the Switch version, has remastered graphics, widescreen support? (I don't know if the original did support widescreen as some PS2 games did and some didn't, with the GameCube it is iffy as the console itself does not support widescreen but maybe some games do and the Xbox supported it out of the box with pretty much all games and system support), and a remastered soundtrack that sounds great.
