Thoughts on champions

I think it feels very handholdy in the beginning and I wish there wasn't a limit on the amount of recruit line up refreshes, because I downloaded this on my new Switch 2 and I don't want to play an unskippable hour of SV to trade with my Switch 1 then download HOME to get my Delphox. Maybe I'll do it later.

Well, just imagine if someone's never played Pokémon before. And before you say 'who would get Champions without playing other Pokemon games'- answer, various little siblings who just want to copy their big brother. This would be a super helpful guide, actually. And you can just press X to skip scenes and do the whole tutorial in under a minute.

I know that's a possibility and didn't imply they should never make tutorials anywhere in my comment. They're useful and help people learn how to play the game. But you can have games with beginnings that aren't handholdy. Making it so all you can do until you finish the tutorial is press A repeatedly (you can't even pick your own moves or press literally any option other than the one they want you to in the tutorial. It makes Z-A's tutorial look like an unrestricted open world) makes it tiring. I think the tutorials should've been a little bit more optional (I don't mean in their own menus with rewards and eye-catching exclamation marks like the non-mandatory tutorials in this game, but at least don't force me to play a glorified unskippable and rewardless A-smashing simulator for mulitple minutes at the start when I want to just play the game). Kind of like how you're at least allowed to run around a little and pick your own moves in actual Pokémon games. You can open the X menu before you unlock Mystery Gifts and trading.
I'm sure some text explaining what something means or does when relevant would have been enough for a new fan to understand, right? Taking away their ability to even look at the different options isn't going to do anything. It's just handholdy.

Also, I forgot this, but even if I do all that and get my Delphox, I'm not going to be able to get the Delphoxite unless I buy a second copy of Z-A, because I got it digitally so I could play it on release. Or I could download HOME, connect the account to my phone or tablet, and trade with my other account or a random person. None of these options are something I'm willing to do anytime soon.

So, it turns out there wasn't a limit, it's that the game was forcing me to pick something before refreshing again. Also, I just found a shiny Scizor in the recruitment roster. Champions has shinies for some reason.

I think it's really good!
The format for stats are a lot like Pokken Tournaments (very easy to understand)
I like the currency system and was genuinely surprised to see the Mega Stones were not overly expensive
I enjoy the fact that even though it's not an explore the world game there are still characters to meet
They gave said characters a whole lot of personality in just few lines of dialog, too, which I really liked
I do have some criticisms, though
First of all, not being able to access all Pokemon truly disappoints me
One of the reasons I was so excited for the game is I thought it would have all Pokémon
Hopefully that changes in a future update
The next thing isn't that big of a deal but still kind of bugs me
So I love the animations!
So glad they brought them back!
However, they feel slow
I may just bring picky, and like I said it's not a big deal, but I just feel like they decreased the speed of the movements
Lastly, and this one I'm sure is just a temporary bug, us that any Held Items and Mega Stones I purchase aren't being given to me
I've seem that others have this issue so I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it's fixed
All in all, though, I think it's a really great game and I'm excited to see where it goes in the future!
