Mewtwo V-Union Bug?

MewTwo V-Union has the ability to prevent effects from all attacks.
Is Giratina VSTAR Star Requiem power considered an effect? It is supposed to instantly knock out any Pokemon.
In the OSX Client, MewTwo VUnion blocked my VSTAR attack.

Star requiem Ko's the opponent as an effect
As an easy way to remember, everything except damage is an effect (damage meaning the number on the right of the attack, or if the attack does damage to the bench that are not damage counters, the number in the text).
