Things to know about FRLG
So the older games are much different then the newer ones, meaning there are some things that the players from recent games (like me) will need to learn
The first one that I learned from @UnovanZorua is that if an attack is ranged or physical is determined by type
All Eeveelution types are special and everything else is physical
That means a Gyrados using Waterfall is doing special damage and not physical
That can mess you up considering Gyrados doesn't have a good Special Attack stat
Next is HMs
These are moves you have to have on your team to get through the game
Cut: Cuts down small bushes to get to certain areas
Flash: Illuminates caves that you can't see in
Fly: Allows you to fast travel to locations you have already been to
Surf: Allows you to traverse water
Strength: Pushes boulders that are in your path
Waterfall: A very much so needed one close to end game to get up waterfalls
Each of these moves are needed to get through the game, and they have to be known by a member of your party
It may be smart to have a Pokémon for not combat that can learn many of these moves, allowing most of your other, better Pokémon to have stronger attacks
Now, the last one I am aware of, there is no EXP Share
Only the Pokémon that battled gets EXP
If there are more that I don't know of, please put them in the comments
I want to know them too

Shinies are harder to find
They’re 1/8019 (I think) instead of 1/4016 (I think)
Also pokemon have different move sets then modern games
Also some pokemon can’t evolve like golbat (I think) and pokemon that didn’t have new evolutions yet

Also, HMs can't be forgotten unless you go to a move deleter, so be careful about who learns them. And did you know that TMs are single-use in all games before BW?

Um Golbat should get Crobat Evolution in FRLG given its a Friendship evolution in Gen 2. If it was an item evolution and the item was locked to the post-game, you’d have a point but if Crobat is in the Dex(and it was in Gen 3), Golbat should evolve into it at level 23 if it’s Friendship is high enough. Same deal for Scizor, Slowking, Politoed, Steelix, Hitmontop and other evolutions that came after FRLG or Electivire, Magmortar, Tangrowth, Lickitung’s evolution(name escapes me) and Porygon-Z. No idea if the “Baby” variants will be in it but I’d wager they will be too or Elekid, Magby, Smoochum, Pichu, Mime Jr., Tyrogue and Munchlax. What is unlikely to be in it would be regional variants or Alolan and Galarian forms(hence no Galarian Legendary Birds) and certainly no Paldean Tauros but who knows.

Yeah until the Gen 4 Physical/Special split, Water was always Special. Ditto Dragon, Dark, Psychic, Fire, Grass, Ice and Electric(see a pattern with respect to Eevee’s evolutions?). All other Types were Physical or Normal, Fighting, Steel, Rock, Ground, Bug, Poison, Ghost(yeah… how’s that helping Gengar) and Flying. Fairy came after the split but one would assume under Gen 3 mechanics that it’d be Special given there are more Physical types than Special types.
That means Pokémon who were strong on Physical were kneecapped hard in Generations 2 and 3 when they split the Special stat in Gen 2. Gyarados had a 100 Special in Gen 1 so it didn’t hurt as much from using Surf in Gen 1. Moment you got to Gen 2 though and it’s Water STAB went from 100 to 60 or 40% nerf. Flareon had always been dealing with it since Gen 1 but at least it’s Special was 110 so the difference wasn’t too bad but in Gen 2-3, you really felt the difference of 130 Physical to 95 Special Attack. Same deal for Sneasel, a Physical Dark type that was relegated to using its horrid Special stat in Gens 2 and 3. When it got its evolution in Gen 4, it also got liberated from Dark Special limitation. Then there’s Dragonite… great Physical stat but has to use its weaker Special to deal Dragon moves in Gens 2 and 3. May explain why it’s Mega boosts it’s Special so much since it used to be Special back in the day.

If FRLG has regional variants(and I seriously doubt it but it’d help fill in the type chart considerably if they did), I will riot if Alolan Vulpix is locked to the post-game and if they had Alolan variants like Let’s GO, that might entice me to get Leaf Green for the opportunity to utilize Alolan Ninetales alongside its Kanto counterpart(should have done so on Scarlet in hindsight but I took the fire Croc so… yeah…). Might even roll with Snowy(or Beira) as my starter(for once).

why in the world was ghost physical… literally ghosts aren’t physical, that’s like their whole friggin’ thing…

No Johto or Hoenn Pokemon can be obtained before beating the game in FRLG, so you need to obtain the National Pokédex in the post-game to evolve Golbat (and it doesn't seem like they're adding anything from after FRLG or making big changes, I'm guessing from how they've never mentioned anything new. And while it could be a surprise, we won't even have online play and the HOME compatibility isn't going to be there on release even if there is any, so I doubt they care enough to add anything). Also, while they're technically usable after beating the game since they're gen 2 Pokémon, Espeon and Umbreon are completely unobtainable until they add RSE, which didn't have Eevee but had daytime and nighttime (so, to get them in FRLG you need to trade an Eevee to RSE, which we don't have on the Switch yet, increase your friendship, wait till day or night, evolve it, then trade it back to FRLG. Also, here's a reminder that there's no online play and even if they add RSE you'll need to have a second Switch).
