Perhaps. I haven't lived there in over a decade, though. It would probably feel like a foreign country to me now.

I grew up with pokemon. The first original 150 pokemon. Used to watch the anime during sunday morning cartoons. My brother and I were big on collecting and playing. Back then they used the gems instead of energy cards. We were the ones that cried during the first pokemon movie. You know which scene. Latias and Latios were rare legendaries no I cant keep up with all of them. Pokemon Snap was the best game on N64 and pokemon red was my favorite on GB. I think that anime is the reason my brother and I ended up being more empathetic then our other siblings because that show was big on caring, loyalty and friendships. I remember the charmander episode that made gim my favorite character because he was so loyal he was willing to risk his flame going out to wait for the owner that abandoned him. My brother used to joke around saying he was james and i was Jesse. The good ol' times.
I just got back in to the TCG last month and was shocked at how much has changed. But it makes me smile to see little kids still wanting to play and seeing them have fun like I did makes it hit my soul in a very happy way. For an item to survive 30 years and still continue to bering joy to many generations thats the golden grail. I hope pokemon continues to make kids happy for years to come. :)

Original 151. People always forget Mew(and it's obtainable if you know what to do). Also Yellow > Red + Blue because you get all three starters(with Charizard able to learn Fly), starter Pikachu able to learn Thunderbolt naturally(just can't evolve it for Raichu, making it unavailable on Yellow) and having Animé inspired encounters(Jessie&James, Lt.Surge having a single Raichu, Erika having Gloom as her Ace, Giovanni having Persian instead of Kangaskahn and so on).
I never got into the TCG but I knew people who did. Crazy what they cost these days.

And yes, it makes me smile as well, to see the youngsters like, enjoy, trade and continue on to play all that is Pokemon now. It's multi-generational!
