was the mega malamar marketing accurate to the legends Z-A game?

i know the people of pokemon.com and the official forums loves their friend malamar

but was anyone else expecting malamar to be more relevant to the plot of ZA than it really ended up being after all the marketing attention?

no offense if you think malamar is cool

i have to admit an advertising campaign about mega malamar acting like a super villain and shown to be hypnotizing people all around lumiose city into being its followers could have been an intriguing setup for drama and a story focused around a pokemon causing trouble while coexisting with humans (even if it was mostly based on regular malamar lore)

but in the actual game mega malamar did absolutely nothing like that in the main story or side missions of Z-A where most mons in the dex get to have at least one moment in the spotlight

imagine if a malamar was an actual villain to take down or actually misunderstood or did anything in the city at all

it doesn't even get a rogue boss fight for itself, it's just on emma's team (who is a heroic character that also does quite little) just because she had it in XY. and she doesn't do anything in the story with it either

and you don't even get to use its mega stone for yourself until the very end of the game where it's an optional purchase. and even then it just doesn't have anything to stand out in the ZA battle system because it's stuck with mid stats and no ability

just feels like the marketing focus wasn't close to the actual game it was advertising in this case IMHO

I think they should take notes from the amount of advertisement they did for it and put that into the actual game

    Maybe introduce characters that way

It will give us a sense of their personalities and be excited to meet them in game

Give a villain (if they even still do that anymore) a villainous and ominous video, leaving us wondering who they are and what role they will pay in the story

    But you're right

    Why didn't they use this?

It would have been a cool side plot that linked to the main one

    And remember Victreebell's?

    Imagine playing that

Exploring a seemingly haunted house with a chilling feeling

And what if they added the wrestling as something you can do in game?

A thing that you can do at night at a certain location

A crowd hoping you up as you battle in a wring

    There was so much potential!

It would have been fun for her to either use it for detective things, or for it to constantly pop out when she's doing detective things just for her to tell it every time "No, Malamar, we're not going to hypnotise people in our missions!" (it's still used to Xerosic and his morally awful plans), or anything given how fun they marketed it just for it to essentially be nonexistent outside of battling Emma or using it yourself.

But of course, this game they did the bare minimum they needed for the game to be popular and didn't think about actually making it good.
