inspiration doesnt give you advantage on a roll it lets you reroll it so you take the new result regardless if it’s higher or lower
Yeah looking like it as a story can sometimes lead to railroading railroading is when the dm pushes the story a too hard that the players choices are meaningless fate has already been decided if the dm wants them to fail they will fail no matter what the outcome is that’s why railroading is considered quite taboo since it takes player choice out of dnd

Hmm strange that my reply to this hasn't appeared yet so "take 2". Basically, when researching this, I've found that when it comes to Inspiration, you gain advantage when using it. Namely you roll two D20's and take the higher result. Meaning you don't just take the new roll if it happens to be lower than what you initially had. Otherwise, what's the point in using Inspiration if you're penalized for doing so? Now an argument could be made that you have to announce Inspiration beforehand to obtain advantage, in which case you'd have a point but I find that most players won't even bother unless a result they got was not to their satisfaction. Its in those situations where taking the higher result has merit.
Now… to see if we get another Earthquake that I notice this morning. Have already had three that I've felt(w/ several Aftershocks) in a span of ~90 minutes.

True but you just said in the quote above that you take the new result, regardless of it being higher or lower. Isn't that a contradiction on your part? That would basically be like you rolled 6 on an Accuracy roll but you really want this to hit because your Damage rolls are really good(like imagine I got a perfect 32 on a Sorcerous Burst… id seriously want it to hit). By what you said in the reply I quoted, if I used Inspiration to re-roll and got a 4, I'd have to take the 4 instead of the 6 I got the first time. Obviously, if I rolled a 6 and then used Inspiration to roll again and ended up getting 15, there's no harm since that's obviously better. The issue was you said that if the result was lower that you had to take it. Using Inspiration should always yield the best result possible, even if your rolls ended up being 6, 1 and 5, you'd still get that initial 6. Insanely bad luck example but that's my point.

Um, that's not what I'm getting when I look it up. Quoting from an online site…
If you have inspiration, you can expend it when you make an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check. Spending your inspiration gives you advantage on that roll.
Source:
Unless that source is wrong, any time you use Inspiration, you basically are able to take the higher result, even if the mulligan/re-roll is lower than what you got the first time. So the question is… how are we going to treat it going forward? Must declare first prior to rolling(hence gain advantage and roll 2D20) or can we declare after rolling and take the highest result?
