Cofagrigus SSP doesn't interact with Battle Cage the way it should.

Cofagrigus still can place damage counters on your own pokemon with it's ability, despite Battle Cage preventing all damage counters being placed on Benched Pokemon by effects of attacks.

    No, this is correct. Battle cage only prevents from damage counters placed "by effects of attacks and Abilities from the opponent's Pokémon"
