I found a rip-off Pokémon game!
So there really isn't a category for this
This isn't a Pokémon game but I will be referencing Pokémon while talking about it
So I was on my Switch and scrolling through New Releases and it caught my eye
A dark dragon, basic dragon, and lava girl
All three of them were in that old-time style pixel graphics
Just looking at it I thought of the original Pokémon games
First thoughts I had were "wanna be Pokémon"
Now, I understand Pokémon didn't invent the monster catching games, but I bought the game and it still feels like Pokémon
Anyways, I looked at it, curious
It is called "Doki Monsters: Quest"
The games is 8-bit if memory serves and it has a PokeDex (don't remember what they call it) with over 140 Doki Monster
Tall grass and caves and you can't see the Doki Monster you're about to encounter
You use cards that you throw at the creatures to catch them and they have a chance of escaping
There is a type chart
The only difference is I didn't see Dragon, Poison, or Normal (I could be wrong and they may be there) and there is a Light type
And type match-ups are a bit different
The game starts with you having a Shiny!
It is a cat with a sword
Also, when you leave town, the professor chases after you and gives you one of three Doki Monsters since they begged to go with you
You get the options of a Water type anchor, Grass type (don't remember design), and, my personal choice, Fire teddy bear
Now then, the plot is completely different
12 years ago, a young girl (who was your best friend) got kidnapped out in the woods
Now that you are of age, you became a Ranger (trainer) and is now looking for her
Let's go back to similarities
Turn based combat, monsters based on pretty much everything (like children, duck, grim reaper (that one is my favorite so far!), and even a carrot), towns, Monster battles with opposing ranges, level up and exp, form change (evolution but what's interesting is you can choose to devolve it), and, this one is for before S/V players, you can walk into people's houses
That last one I said is actually pretty fun in the third town you get to
In one of the houses, a person is sitting at a table
Go interact with them and they say "Nothing like a good cup of tea! Hey, how'd you get in here?"
I found that funny
Also, villain team
Don't know what they're doing yet, but most of them are scientists
Anyways, the first battle with them, when you win, they're like "Ok, we'll pack up and leave. Don't follow us, alright? … You here me? We said we're leaving and you have no reason to follow us." They looked at each other "This guy doesn't speak much."
You're a silent protagonist and they made a joke about it!
I cackled loudly at that
Anyways, I think to anyone that played the original Pokémon games will definitely feel nostalgic playing the game with how it feels and functions but there will be things that will be a bit different
Not worth the price of what they charge for it but right now it's on sale for three dollars, so if you want to try it, get it before the 17th
I'm not done with the game yet (I'm a bit pass town three) but I'd say right now it's pretty decent
If you play it (or did already) tell me your thoughts!
Does it feel like old Pokémon to you too?

Rare-hunt post-game content and 7 alternate looks per monster (one ultra-rare!) If this is not the shiny ones imagine what it would take to get a shiny of each alternate look of 140+ monsters. Yeah that would take a wile.

I also like to make silent protagonist jokes. In Splatoon 3 they make so many jokes about it. The Captain doesn't talk cause he's an old protagonist, Cuttlefish says "You're not sayin' anything so I'm guessing that's yes", Callie comments "I think they're too excited about finding someone else's grandpa to speak", and Shiver comments on Agent 3 giving her the cold shoulder, and I think Marie said something about a silent hero in a Zipcaster level. I laughed at all of those so much.
