Acording to several statistical sources Pikachu is estimated to be recognized by approximately 4.3 billion people worldwide, making it one of the most recognized fictional characters on the planet.
Now about people that "love" Pikachu... I think it's statistical fair to say that there are hundreds of millions around the world 🤔

Yes, but interestingly enough it wasn't in the top five for most popular
Top five were Charizard, Gardevoir, Lucario, Gengar, and one more (sorry, this was two years ago)

In that poll, other notable Pokémon (just outside top 10) included Bulbasaur, Pikachu, and Eevee — but they ranked lower (13th, 19th, and 20th respectively).

That poll was always kind of illegitamate.
It did 8 polls (1 for each region) but never actually pitted the top placing Pokemon against each other.
The top Pokemon in each region is definitely correct, but it's unknown how the order would actually go, or even if those 4 would make it in the first place.
