Doing things like Mega Evolving, K.Oing a Mega, getting elms, things like that gets you points
These points are then added up and depending on how many you got depends how high you shoot up in the ranks
It took me four matches to reach K, where the Mega Stone is

You can put a 2 cartrige in a switch 1 ONLY if it has a switch one version.( It will say not all content will be avalible) So if you put pokemon z-a 2 into a switch 1 it will turn into the switch 1 version, but if you put a game card that is ONLY for switch 2 you can only put it in switch 2.

Doesn't sound hard, but I think the seasons for those three Mega Stones will be over by January. Hopefully they rerun them quickly!
