Why is auto-battle not working for me?

I'm playing on a Switch and I'm trying to defeat the Team Star bases. I beat the first 3 of them but now I'm in fairy base and my auto-battle won't work! I've defeated all the gyms and my pokemon are high level and they're listening to me. So, what's going on? The internet says to change your lead pokemon out but that didn't fix anything for me. Any help would be most appreciated!
