I need some tips for my Pokemon Y Nuzlocke...
I'm a new Nuzlocke-er and there's a lot of special cases. Like trading Pokemon, I'm not sure what the rules are in a lot of cases and I need someone who's done plenty of Nuzlockes before to give me advice!

The core rules were always to catch the first Pokémon you encounter on each new route and to release them when they faint. That's it.
People added all kinds of extra rules and conditions over the years, but fundamentally the whole thing is up to you. It's not like you are entering some official tournament or trying to prove anything. The goal was simply to make your playthroughs more interesting, more challenging, and crucially, more fun.
If you encounter someone suggesting additional rules that sound like they would make it more fun, go for it. But you are not obligated to do anything.
Personally, I recommend turning off the exp. share for any playthrough of a 3DS game. If you are trying to make your playthrough more challenging, giving your whole team passive exp will ruin that.
Most people say accepting trades and gift Pokémon go against the spirit of the challenge. It's up to you whether you subscribe to that belief. But I would argue that a lot of the fun and intrigue comes from being forced to use the first Pokémon you encounter. If you can trade for your preferred options, that is somewhat diminished.
Don't worry about "getting it right" or "doing a REAL challenge". Feel free to experiment. And if a rule isn't working out or isn't fun for you, feel free to drop it. It's your game.
