The catch-up for new users is causing many of my friends to quit.
I've evangelized for pokemon pocket. I've shared it with family and friends, but they keep saying the same thing after a few days to weeks, "I'm just so behind" and they quit.
Collectors friends complain they will never finish sets at the rate the new ones come out and tgc player friends say they struggle to get meta staples across 3-4 different sets. Not to mention what both may have missed out on already in promos. One friend really likes the "hurts itself mankey" from one of the first promos, but can never get it.
A recommendations I have heard is to discount old sets or put them on sale occasionally (less hourglasses or pack points for specific cards) so new and old players can fill out their collection or nab meta relevant cards.
I think the free trial deck was a great idea. It helped some people I know get interested in the offline battles which led to more packs and eventually enough investment to stay. So more of this please!
