Pokémon TCG Pocket is starting to feel more stressful than fun…

Hello guys,

Just wanted to vent a bit and see if anyone else is feeling the same way. Recently, Pokémon TCG Pocket has become more stressful than enjoyable, especially because of the rank system.

I’ve been playing just to reach Master Ball rank, not aiming for Top 1000 or 10,000 — I only want the badge, that’s it. But it feels like such a grind. The tier levels within each rank are way too many, and climbing up feels exhausting. Even if you win a few matches, one or two losses and you’re back down again. It’s discouraging.

It used to be fun just collecting and battling casually, but now it’s like I’m forcing myself to play, and that’s not the experience Pokémon should bring.

My suggestion to the devs (if they’re listening):

Please consider reducing the number of levels per tier rank — maybe just 1 or 2 levels per rank instead of 4 or more. That way, casual players like me can still feel motivated and have a chance to get the badge without needing to grind non-stop.

Would love to hear if anyone else is going through the same thing, or if you’ve found a way to keep the game fun despite the ranking stress.

— A tired Master Ball hopeful

The whole point to this content was to give something for competitive players to aim for. Letting anyone just reap the trophies for this would water down the accomplishment.

I wonder why you want 'master ball rank' so bad if you're truly a casual player 🧐

This is the only piece of advice to the devs. Make it so people are relieved when they achieve the higher tier of ranked. If that is in their philosophy for trainers.

Thanks to your post i did get a Great Ball Rank 1. I have played few battles before and my rank was Begginer 3 or 2. All i can tell you is that in higher ranks it is probably mostly luck based who wins. Every player there has a good deck. Even at lower ranks most of my games that i have lost were because of bad draw or bad beggining. I managed to get a 62.1% win rate. 36 wins and 22 losses. So i would say just take it easy. It is probably good to get a nice rank for rewards but don't stress yourself about getting specific rank. It is a card game. You will never eliminate the luck factor. Even if you have had the best cards. To be honest game is good. If you consistently open packs and do 3 daily missions you can get most of the cards anyway. And it takes not much time. Take a break from competitive battles. Try maybe at a different day or hour. And to be honest it is just a badge. If you don't enjoy playing so many battles over and over just to go even and not make a progress at the end of the day it is not worth it. Season ends at 27th of April anyway. Try to change your mindset. Take a break and maybe you will be lucky enough to get Master Ball Rank. Maybe it would be more worth it if rewards were even better. Like a special card or something.

Also I play with a deck made by myself. So maybe if i had a deck made specifically for getting ranks fast then maybe my experience would have been different. But anyway in my opinion it is the best Pokemon phone game for casuals for now.

I don't have time for ranked in the first place, but even if I did, the whole idea is silly and pointless.

Battles in this game are extremely luck dependent to the point that achieving a rank means nothing, merit-wise.

It means you played 200 battles every day for at least two weeks. Woopty Doo. Doesn't matter which of the 50 viable decks you use or even how well you play them. Getting the badge just comes down to luck and pure time invested.

I am focused on having two functional copies of every single card in the game and I'm staying on top of that. Now THAT'S an accomplishment I'll feel proud to show off.

i have a friend that gets a 62.1% winrate and knows that is going to change. After all this is just a gamble. If you enjoy making a deck for yourself just know someone is playing the same deck as you.
