Game forcing first Primary Pokemon Selection and still skipping turns

It's been happening more frequently that the game will force my first Primary Pokemon Selection without my Input…
It's not such a bad thing in games where I only have one Basic Pokemon in my hand, if it was a feature… but in games where I have more than one Basic Pokemon I could have selected, more often than not it automatically selects the one I wouldn't have chosen to start with in the Primary spot.
Also, when it does that… it also seems to be an indicator that it's gonna skip my turn during the match.
