Blue doesn’t work

The new blue supporter doesn’t work against my opponent’s abilities. I had a Pokémon in my bench with exactly 20 health left, and my opponent was going to use greninja’s ability to KO it. So I decided to use the blue supporter so that it’ll protect me from the attack. Instead, my opponent did exactly 20 damage, and I lost the game. Is the blue supporter bugged or did I misinterpreted the card entirely?
