Why the ranked match change?

I’ve been playing Unite since season 3 and if the ranked match changes from this season aren’t reversed I reckon this one will be my last… all the fun has been sucked out of playing now.
If you want to make getting the badge harder why not just change the level required back to 1800 like in season 3&4 rather than change the formula entirely?
I play solo and it feels totally dead rn - if it ain’t broke don’t fix it
