i was wondering where you stood personally. From your original post I picked up a tone of you thinking it's unethical. But I wasn't sure and brushed it off until I thought to ask you. It seems like you aren't taking into consideration of the dangers of wild pokemon.
Imagine a wild Rhyperior attacking you(a human). You wouldn't be able to defend yourself. Ah but you're a trainer. So you send out your pokemon. Then you have the decision of using your Pokemon's strengths(poisoning) or taking more damage than is necessary. Not saying poisoning is always the right decision because usually it isn't better. But isn't that one time it was beneficial kind of the beauty of the games.
Even if your objective is catching a pokemon. A pokemon with a status is caught easier. As you concede.
I like poison types. I am a little sad Dire Claw is so good and fear for the future of the poison status. I like we are having an open discussion as I am open to alternatives but for the current released games I quite like where poison's niche is.

you make valid points about the status and i don't mind the discussion going this way. but yeah i was feeling that the poison status is still unnatural to inflict even if a pokemon can use it to heal, and could be argued that it is still a stressor in some ways.
