Unable to retreat

Today I was playing with zapdos against a stall deck. Opponent kept switching between cards and so did. Eventually, it was time to close the game out with a retreat into zapdos then into raichu. Using retreat froze the card animation so I I couldn't do anything until the timmer ran out. Next turn retreat worked into raichu but taking prize cards lead the cards to freeze in fronton the board. Game was completely unplayable after that. I just had to watch mimikyu whittle my raichu and miraidon to zero for the win.
