So it's inconsistent that Zebstrika can deal 40 in total with Giovanni but Greninja can't deal extra damage when using Giovanni with the shuriken still doing +20 attack towards the active defending pokemon. The damage should be +30 with the shuriken against the defending Card because of the +10 from Giovanni. I understand that it's an ability but it should still do more against the defending Card in play since that's what it says on Giovanni.

I think its literally because its an ability and not an attack skill. The way you should treat Greninja is that its an additional 20 damage every turn to wherever you want and it doesn't have to be the active pokemon. I don't even put Giovani in my deck with Greninja!
