I have played Pokemon TCG before and I used Dark or Metal Decks like Metagross and Team Rocket Decks. So for those who don't know, Metal and Dark Energy have special conditions when used with the right Pokemon Type. Metal reduces damage taken when attached to metal pokemons and dark increases attack damage when attached to dark pokemons.
I suggest that this be implemented here as well. Since Metal and Dark are Special Energy Cards before, you are limited to having only 4 copies of it on your deck, but since we already have an energy zone, i think the best way to implement this is to have have it's effect limited to a maximum of 4 times per game. So for example if you have a Melmetal and you attached 4 Metal Energy cards to it, then you have already maxed the metal special effect and any succeeding metal energy would be ordinary energy with no effect. Same thing for Dark Energy and Dark Pokemons. Not sure if I made sense haha.

I have been playing the original Pokomen TCG for a while and I don't understand why would a complicated mechanism like you proposed it's needed…
You are basically talking about adding Special Energies to the game… but in a very complicated way (even more complicated than the original Pokemon TCG), so that will not work in TCG Pocket at least for now.
As we know they are going add tool cards to the game soon, so maybe the Special Energy effects could come in the form of tools, since they are going to add them anyway… I think would be a much simple way to implement what you are asking.

I think they should add the meowth variants. Possibly in another booster pack like the Snorlax pack or as a promo event.
