What type of starter do you normally choose when starting a new Pokemon game?

I usually choose water with the exceptions being johto (grass) kalos (grass or fire) galar (fire) and paldea (grass)

The only Fire starters I choose often are Fennekin and Litten. For Grass, I choose Turtwig, Snivy, and Sprigatito. And for Water, I choose Squirtle, Totodile, Mudkip, and Sobble.

So Fire is usually the type I choose the least, but Fennekin is a Fire Type.

For most regions/generations, the Fire Type starter is generally the best one to have and it's largely due to the regional Dex options. A prime example is Sinnoh where Infernape was not only stupidly OP but because your only alternative was Rapidash(Platinum fixed that). Grass and Water options that generation were quite good, which only made the Fire Monkey that much stronger. The only generation where a case can be made that the Fire Starter was meh was Unova with Tepig. Didn't help that Volcarona was so good.

By Arceus, Water Starters are amazing. I once had a hate for Totodile as a whole through my life time, due to it being

a menace in the anime. Now I know that it's a hero.
