the "Sword and Shield was originally for the 3DS" theory
once I saw a theory online stating that sword and shield were originally made for the 3DS and apparently not enough people know about it so I'm going to share it here
so basically gamefreak thought the switch was gonna be a massive failure for whatever reason (and they blame smartphones towards that reason, they think that phones will eventually kill game consoles which probably explains why they make so many mobile games nowadays).
so anyway due to them believing the console was gonna flop, the game was most likely being developed for the 3DS instead, but they jumped ship once they found out the switch was doing numbers so then they went to restart development on the game over there, which might explain why it's so rushed
other pieces of evidence point to the bad graphics, explaining that it looks like and upscaled 3DS game, and the fact that a lot of the stuff that were in 3DS games like sun and moon (ie. some move causing the player to disappear, which apparently happened in the 3DS games, along with following pokemon being cut from the game, which the 3DS couldn't handle, which explains why they implemented following pokemon in the DLC), not just that but the national dex cut probably also has to do with the fact that they didn't have the opportunity to code in all pokemon before they restarted development on the switch and just decided to keep in the ones they already had coded in
so interesting theory now is it

Wait, I thought that was the accepted sequence of events. Didn't someone involved in development reveal that in an interview?

The bad 3DS graphics could also be the same thing with Breath of the Wild having dumbed down their graphics for large environments, it's a underpowered console (literally). But also the national dex could also have been because they wanted to sell DLC's with old Pokemon.
